Directorate's Composition and Activities
The Directorate of Quality Assurance is composed of three (3) departments with activities defined along such departments. Administratively, the Directorate is headed by a Director with the help of the Associate director. The two are assisted by three (3) Head of Departments. Quality Assurance-campus/college/school coordinators.
Department of Teaching and Learning Activities
Academic Programmes: Ensuring that academic programmes and curricular are in line with the ideals prescribed by Quality agencies, mainly Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), Tanzania Universities Quality Assurance Forum (TUQAF), Inter-Universities Council for East Africa (IUCEA) among others. This includes the teaching methods, assessment approaches, technology used in teaching and learning and students' field work.
Students' Assessment: To monitor the student assessment system that is guided by Examination and Student Assessment Criteria By-Laws, approved by the Senate and ratified by the University Council. The process includes external moderation of the examination papers and marked scripts, internal examiner and faculty/institute board meetings followed by Senate approval.
Student' Evaluation of Lecturers: To ensure students' are involved in the evaluation of lecturers on aspects including how best they teach, mark, and provide feedback to students is done. The Directorate is responsible to advise the management on the need for such feedback for quality education.
Department of Support services
Support Services: Through this department the Directorate is also responsible to oversee quality of the support services like over all teaching and learning environments, staff welfare, students' accommodation, catering, environmental cleanliness, security and secretarial services provided by identified providers so that they meet standards.
Institutional Assessment: Through this department, the directorate is responsible to advice the University on quality assurance mechanism and practice for conducting internal institutional self-assessment which is also externally reviewed in line with TCU requirements and the Performance Improvement Model (PIM).
Department Research and Outreach Services
Activities: Through this department, the directorate is responsible to ensure the quality of the outputs derived from the Research, Publication, and Consultancy Activities as core functions meet the standards prescribed in Policy and Guidelines relevant.
Staff Development and and Capacity Building : The directorate is responsible for monitoring and advising on the mechanism for Appraisal and Human development Policies as well as a system for recruitment and selection in line with Quality standards.
